DHS Senior awarded the Stephen Gold Scholarship on May 24th

Abigail was honored at a recent breakfast ceremony on May 24 sponsored by the North Jersey Special Education Administrators Association (NJSEAA), the organization that awards the scholarship. Abigail’s parents, Lisa and Todd Horgan, DHS Case manager, Dr. Meghan Costa, Director of Special Services, Dr. Paul Barbato, and Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Maria Poidomani were on hand to celebrate with this outstanding student.


Not only is Abigail a high achieving student enrolled in Accelerated and Honors courses, she has also played varsity basketball and softball for Dumont High School, is a member of 11 clubs, tutors young students struggling with academics, babysits most days of the week, and regularly participates in community services opportunities through animal shelters, church, and school functions. She has also served as a mentor for an after school District program called The Learning Connection (TLC), which assists struggling elementary school students with homework and supplemental support with reading and comprehension. She is also an active member of Tomorrow’s Teachers, a program that focuses on developing prerequisite skills necessary to pursue a teaching career.


Abigail  has been accepted to Rider University for the Fall of 2023 and will double major in Elementary Education and Multidisciplinary Studies and will minor in Special Education with a focus on Early Childhood Education.
