Celebrating Earth Day with a Community Art Installation

Happy Earth Day!

In celebration of Earth Day, students from Dumont High School and Lincoln Elementary School came together to create a meaningful and collaborative art installation. Inspired by the work of Ghanaian sculptor El Anatsui, this project brought together creativity, environmental awareness, and the spirit of community.

Lincoln students collected cereal and pasta boxes from home and explored topics like recycling, sustainability, and what it means to be a responsible global citizen. These materials were then transformed into over 2,390 colorful paper circles!

The art pieces were passed along to Ms. Schettig's Art & Survey classes at Dumont High School, where students assembled them into a stunning five-circle mobile installation. The final piece, which spans an impressive 11 feet by 14.5 feet, is proudly displayed in the Atrium hallway at Lincoln Elementary School.

A special thank you to Mr. Lopez for hosting the exhibit, and to Mr. Stephens and Mr. Chris for their help with installation—especially as it required a crane to reach up to 16 feet!

Be sure to check out the photos of this beautiful project and the teamwork that brought it to life.
